Position Summary:
Responsible for machine audits and complete disassembly and reassembly of packaging machinery. Disassembly may include parts cleaning and refinishing. Reassembly of packaging machinery may include machine assembly, electrical panel building, machine wiring, and powering-up, debugging, programming in all current Syntegon platforms and testing at the Syntegon Packaging Services location. Controls upgrades at customer sites may be necessary on occasion. Applicable packaging machinery includes Horizontal and Vertical wrappers, Feeders, Robots, Tray Formers, Tray Closers and Bag Closing equipment. This position will also serve as Site Coordinator and will organize support equipment, parts, and logistics.
Essential Functions:
- Interact, support and assist the product, project management, and sales departments with order review, design reviews, assembly, testing and final acceptance tests.
- Evaluate machines to determine what parts need to be replaced utilizing parts manuals.
- Disassemble machines and prepare parts for refinishing.
- Minor fabrication utilizing a Lathe, Mill, Drill Press, Sanders and Grinders.
- Assemble machines.
- Assemble and wire electrical panels.
- Wire machines once assembled.
- Power up, Debug and test machines.
- Controls platforms programming.
- Assist in development of future upgrades.
- Site coordination, sort and stock project parts, and support project manager with coordinating assembly resources.
- Work with vendors to obtain quotes for various projects.
- Maintain proficiency in control software (e.g. Allen Bradley, Beckhoff, and various Syntegon controls platforms) and machinery equipped with PLC's through vendor training and interaction with engineering personnel.
- Periodic travel to customer site to perform field upgrades and product support.
- Travel extensively (approximately 40% of the year) in North America as well as internationally, when needed which requires passport.
- Lift up to 50lbs on a regular basis.
- Work in tight quarters; on top and underneath equipment. Will stand, stoop and bend continuously (approx. 66% of the time).
- Submit to safety, background and drug / alcohol testing as required by customers.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Occasionally, when assigned, provide accountability as a site manager, directing the workload and tasks of Syntegon field technicians, assembly, and engineering personnel, Coordinate with customer and other contract/OEM site personnel.
Profil
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have a minimum of a 2+ year technical degree in automated packaging or automated systems.
- Must have a minimum of 5+ years servicing or building automated packaging equipment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with ladder logic as well as other machine control software and hardware.
- Demonstrated advanced mechanical, electrical and software skills.
- Ability to effectively use hand drills, hand tools, hoists and power tools.
- Ability to read and understand schematics and assembly drawings.
- Work to close tolerance.
- Ability to manage time and work independently and in a team environment.
- Strong communication skills, oral and written.
- Strong computer skills, in particular MS Office.
- Excellent work habits, maintaining a clean and safe work space.
- Prior work experience in repair and maintenance of capital equipment.
- Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of personnel, from production to engineers to management.
- Strong customer service focus.
