The Controls Technician is an integral role in Syntegon’s success in leading the world’s packaging machinery market.
The Technician is leading our equipment startups and application set up optimizations, implementing creative and effective solutions to complex automation and application problems. This is a fast pace, dynamic and team centric work environment that requires self-motivation and independence paired with empowerment to be impactful for the organization and to meet our customer’s high expectations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Expert level support for complex software, controls and automation problems on the shop floor
- Performing electrical & software automation commissioning tasks. This includes downloading software, firmware and configuration files to machine controllers, HMI’s, servo drives, VFD’s and other devices utilized on Syntegon equipment
- Define dipswitch or Ethernet IP address settings of connected devices
- Perform I/O, motion and communications testing for equipment to ensure proper wiring and functionality of connected devices
- Perform functional and communications setup and testing between Syntegon equipment and third-party equipment. This may include printing devices, vision systems, conveyors, pick & place equipment, bowl feeders, robots, etc
- Efficiently building and modifying mechanical assemblies per the bill of material and assembly drawings while using hand and power tools
- Efficiently wiring machines, panels and control circuitry (up to 575 Volts), adding electrical components based on project layouts and wiring diagrams (per NFPA 79)
- Successfully troubleshoots and problem solves live power and control circuitry with test equipment
- Lead efforts to perform and document machine setups of all recipe/machine parameters in order to optimize machine performance
- Conducting a successful customer factory acceptance test while demonstrating and training customers on equipment operations and equipment functionality
- Supporting and coordinating activities and controls and software improvements with the controls engineering team
- Observing all safety regulations, making sure of wearing and using proper protective wear and tools, informing supervisor of any safety issues or hazards
- Travel up to 10% of the time
Additional Responsibilities:
- Lift up to 30 lbs. (above 30 lbs. with assistance) and work in any position for an extended period of time.
- Work with moving parts and mechanical hazards.
- Work from elevated heights
- Repetitively use arms, hands, and fingers.
Profil
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess a minimum of a 2+year Technical Vocational Degree
- Must have at least 5+ years of job experience building and repairing automated capital equipment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION:
- Degree in Packaging, Automation or Robotics preferred
- Passionate, self-motivated, Self-organized, and priority task oriented, including maintaining a 6S work environment
- Able to work efficiently in order to meet project and department objectives while utilizing best practice methods
- Able to continuously improve and problem solve the working processes and work environment
- Completion of projects involving control systems commissioning, software integration and modification, calibration or troubleshooting
- Team oriented with excellent communication skills, fostering team work and building a customer relationship
- Experience in building capital equipment including industrial motion controls systems, Rockwell Automation (RSLogix5000/Studio5000, FactoryTalk View ME), Beckhoff industrial PC’s (TwinCAT 2/3)
- Experience in implementing Rockwell hardware including ControlLogix, CompactLogix, PanelView Plus HMI’s, PowerFlex Variable Frequency Drives (PF525/527), Kinetix5500 Servo Drives
- Experience in implementing AC/DC electrical systems and use of multi-meters for troubleshooting electrical equipment
- Experience in implementing vision and barcode systems and configuration of these devices.
- Experience with Cognex hardware and software.

The expected compensation range for this position is between $67,800.00 – 93,200.00 based on a full-time schedule.
Compensation for roles at Syntegon varies depending on a wide array of non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, degree/credentials, relevant skill set, and level of relevant experience.
